The Art of Renovation.: balancing aesthetics and functionality.

The balance between aesthetics and functionality in renovation refers to achieving a harmonious blend of visual appeal and practical usability in a space. It involves making design choices that not only enhance the overall look of a room, but also optimize its functionality to meet the needs of its users.

Striking the right balance involves thoughtful considerations, such as selecting materials that are both aesthetically pleasing and durable, optimizing layout for efficient use of space, and incorporating design elements that enhance the overall user experience without sacrificing visual appeal. It is also important to inventory your things.

Consider your lifestyle and think about the needs of the occupants of the home. Essentially, It’s about creating a space that is not only beautiful, but also functions effectively for its intended purpose.           Ask yourself the following questions, to get yourself thinking.

Kitchen:

In the kitchen think about what activities actually happen in this space. Obviously you cook there. And serve meals.
– But do you use any part of the kitchen as an office?
– Do you entertain while cooking?
– Do you have family dinners in this space?
– Do your children do their homework at the counter? Or at the table?
– What else happens in this space?

Bathroom:

If it’s the master bathroom, it should be your Oasis, your place to escape.
– How do you achieve that?
– What colors, finishes or aesthetics would give you a sense of peace?
If it’s your guest bathroom, think about what your guests need.
– Does it need to be handicap accessible?
– Is it your children’s bathroom?
– Are there two or more people sharing it?
– Do you have small children that need a tub and do you need to be able to assist them?

Living room:

The living room serves many purposes for you and your family. You want to be able to incorporate all the different functions into a harmonious whole.
– Does your family watch tv or movies together?
– Are there family gatherings to play cards or board games ?
– Does one member of the family need an office or homework space?
– What about hobbies or playing piano?
– Do you ever entertain in a more formal fashion?
